The Gulani LASIK Globe Stabilizer and Flap Restrainer
It's a Matter of Control
ASICO Vision News

The Gulani Lasik Globe Stabilizer and Flap Restrainer addressed the problem of an apprehensive patient as well as the condition of Nystagmus and Nystagmoid eye movements. It is to be used after the creation of a lameller corneal flap and to overturn the same in preparation for the stage of Excimer ablation. It can be used in nasal as well as superior flaps.

The stabilizer fixates the globe while the excimer laser ablates in a single plane without ocular torsion., The openended ring enables an inherent elastic ability for applicability in larger diameter eyeballs.

The second function of corneal flap restraint can be used, if needed, depending on the surgeon's discretion. If the restrainer is not used, then the flap is overturned on the ring. If the restrainer is used, then the flap goes under the ring in the specially provided bridge-space of the ring. The special space avoids inadvertent damage to the corneal flap in the
form of crush injury or irregular pressure. Restraining the corneal flap during ablation
can also help in those cases here due to a short flap, one needs to protect the underside of the overturned flap with viscoelastics (which is messy) or hold the flap down with a wecksell spear (which unnecessarily occupies the other hand).

Use of this single instrument can thus deliver the simultaneous functions of: Globe stabilization + Corneal flap restraint + Maximize exposure of stromal area for ablation.

Thus, we can now include another deserving population of patients to the clientele of Lasik surgery, ie: patients with Nystagmus and Nystagmoid eye movements.

Gulani LASlK Stabilizer:
  • Corneal flap can be held under the recessed space of the ring, or can be overturned onto the ring
  • Designed to solve problems of apprehensive patients, ocular torque as well as nystagmoid eye movements
  • Ergonomic, single-handed globe and corneal flap control
  • Effective simultaneous functions of globe stabilization, corneal flap restraint, and maximized stromal bed exposure
  • Designed for both nasal and superior hinges
  • 13mm In diameter
  • Functional for right or left eye
