Wavefront™ LASIK

The FDA has just approved amazing CustomVue™ technology by VISX® for use in Wavefront™ LASIK surgery, offered at our Bayside practice in Queens. During clinical trials, Wavefront™ LASIK was able to help 27 percent of the treated patients achieve incredible uncorrected visual acuity of 20/12.5 or better with 74 percent of patients achieving 20/16. About 90 percent of patients treated in the trials achieved 20/20 vision or better at six months. There was also a marked decrease in glare and improvement in night vision in the majority of these patients, compared to those who underwent traditional LASIK.

LASIK has been one of the safest and most successful surgical procedures in our practice, with 100 percent of our patients being able to drive without the use of corrective lenses, compared to the national average, which approaches 96 percent. The remaining four percent of the national LASIK patient population can experience glare, loss of some contrast sensitivity or even a loss of one or two lines of best correctable visual acuity (BCVA). The reason for these less than spectacular results in a small percentage of patients nationwide has been the result of so called "high order aberrations." The new CustomVue™ Wavefront™ LASIK technology that we proudly offer to our patients has greatly reduced these high order aberrations, which were induced by conventional LASIK. This reduction in high order aberration can also reduce nighttime vision problems.

The procedure for Wavefront™ LASIK at our practice in the Bayside area of Queens is very similar to the procedure used for conventional LASIK. The difference with Wavefront™ LASIK is that before surgery, the machine's Waveprint™ technology takes an extremely precise measurement of your refractive error to ensure that your vision is treated properly. To complete the procedure, a special program is loaded into the VISX® Star S4 laser which uses intricate, variable laser spots to eliminate unwanted optical defects that could never before be addressed. The entire Wavefront™ LASIK procedure takes less than five minutes per eye. Learn about our LASIK refractive surgery process.

IntraLase® Bladeless LASIK

Dr. Drucker now offers the ultimate in advanced LASIK technology - IntraLase® bladeless LASIK - to the Bayside and Queens area. IntraLase® bladeless LASIK surgery is completed without traditional blade cutting of the corneal flap. While the standard method of flap production has been reliable and quite safe, the use of the IntraLase® laser gives our surgeons the ability to make a thinner, finer flap that leaves more corneal tissue for correction of higher degrees of refractive errors. Many patients who were turned down in the past due to their high degree of myopia and relatively thin corneas can now be helped. Using this method, the corneal flap can also be lifted in the direction of the nose to spare damage to corneal nerves, thereby reducing dry eye symptoms. An IntraLase® flap fits more securely back into the corneal bed due to the vertical slope of the edges. Experienced surgeons agree that this technique delivers less distortion and better vision post operatively. Contact us today for more informatio about IntraLase® bladeless LASIK in Queens, Bayside.

Cataract Surgery

With more than twenty-five years of experience performing modern cataract surgery procedures like phacoemulsification at his Bayside practice in Queens, Dr. Drucker was one of the first surgeons to use intraocular implants at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Today, his preferred method of cataract surgery is small incision microsurgery with placement of foldable implants. This cataract surgery technique is performed under topical anesthesia to allow instant rehabilitation of vision, thus there is no need for patching after the procedure. Using this method of cataract surgery, injections in and around the delicate eye tissue are unnecessary. After cataract surgery with Dr. Drucker in the Queens area, in Bayside, most patients are able to drive without the use of glasses or contacts. Any pre-existing astigmatism can be corrected at the time of cataract surgery, making vision clearer than ever before!

Dr. Drucker knows that not every patient is a candidate for these modern surgical miracles, however he believes that his high degree of surgical skill can afford most people these advantages. Contact Dr. Barry Drucker today for advanced cataract surgery!

Diabetic Retinopathy

If signs of diabetic retinopathy are discovered, we will suggest that the patient maintain careful control over his or her blood sugar, blood cholesterol, and blood pressure levels to prevent further deterioration of vision. For patients who have had a progression of diabetic retinopathy and are experiencing macular edema, scatter laser treatment is an option. Dr. Drucker believes that with laser therapy, most diabetics can have their vision either restored or stabilized. Dr. Drucker has two lasers for any necessary diabetic retinopathy treatment onsite at his Bayside practice in Queens, so there is no need for extra trips to outside hospitals or clinics for treatment. Contact us today if you are concerned about vision loss due to diabetic retinopathy and are living in the Bayside or Queens area.

Dr. Drucker has more than twenty years experience in glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, as well as in advanced glaucoma laser surgery. We provide all diagnostic and therapeutic methods for glaucoma treatment at our practice in Bayside, Queens to remedy this vision threatening eye disease. Glaucoma generally provides no warning signs or symptoms of disease, making testing an important part of a full vision exam. Glaucoma treatment at our Bayside practice in Queens is generally focused on lowering the internal optical pressure by allowing fluid to drain properly from the eye. Dr. Drucker acknowledges that, "With today's newer medication, most people can avoid glaucoma surgery and be treated with a once or twice a day drop." For those who require surgery, laser treatment can be utilized for precise treatment and quick healing. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The eye area is the first to show the effects of aging. Over time, eyelid skin can begin to puff and sag, creating a tired-looking appearance. Eyelid surgery at our practice in Queens can reduce puffiness and bags, as well as excess skin on the lids, giving your eyes a more alert, youthful appearance. Being a modern, progressive surgeon, Dr. Drucker has kept himself up to date, refining and improving techniques as medical breakthroughs occur. For the last several years he has been performing blepharoplasty in Queens using a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. This unique surgical technique reduces swelling, bleeding, and recovery time, allowing our patients to get back to their everyday activities sooner without the telltale, residual signs of a recent cosmetic procedure.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

After a marking pen is used to outline the excess skin to be removed, laser incisions are made along the natural creases of the upper lid. These incisions are fine and shallow, releasing little blood due to the precision of the laser beam. Excess fat beneath the eyelid skin is removed and can be sculpted utilizing the vaporization properties of the laser. Dr. Drucker then makes a fine running suture along the lid, recreating the upper lid fold, which may have disappeared over time. This helps to produce a more feminine appearance. During laser blepharoplasty at our practice in Queens, the lower lid is approached differently compared to older techniques. Using the laser beam, an incision is made on the inside of the lid, not through the outer skin, thereby avoiding scars and an uneven appearance of lids. All excess fat pockets are removed and sculpted down to the level of the orbital rim to reduce eye puffiness.

If need be, laser skin resurfacing and BOTOX ® Cosmetic treatment can be performed along with laser eyelid surgery at our practice in Queens to reduce skin wrinkles (crows feet, as well as deep creases) and sun damaged pigment from around the eyes and face. Desire for laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation should be discussed prior to your eyelid surgery with Dr. Drucker. When desired, laser skin rejuvenation is best completed in conjunction with the eyelid surgery.

Short-Term Side Effects

As with any cosmetic procedure, complications are rare but can occur. Temporary blurred vision and a slight disparity in the healing of the left and right eyes can be present until healing is complete. Occasionally, tiny whiteheads can form at the site of the sutures after they are taken out. These can easily be removed. In order to minimize the risk of complications, postoperative orders should be followed carefully.

BOTOX® Cosmetic has proven to be particularly effective for the reduction of horizontal wrinkles across the forehead and frown creases between the brows. The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic can last from three to six months before additional treatment is needed. Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing

Erbium laser skin resurfacing at our practice in Queens can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles that may appear around the eyes, forehead, and mouth. The Erbium laser removes fewer layers of skin for more subtle rejuvenation, requiring less healing time than treatment with the CO2 laser. If you desire a gentle reduction of years from your face that is more powerful than microdermabrasion, but less intense than a deep chemical peel, then Erbium laser skin resurfacing from our practice in Queens may be perfect for you!
